Hazard & Operability Study (HAZOP)

A Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) is undertaken by team of multidisciplinary external and internal experts. A systematic approach is used to identify possible hazards as a result of deviations from the process design related with the operation of the installation or plant. The study is an evaluation of the causes and consequences of the individual deviations, in addition to the current safeguards as well as the mitigation measures to identify corrective actions. A HAZOP is applicable to all types of operational processes and can be utilised for existing or planned systems. A HAZOP is most effective when conducted during the design phase where considerations affecting the general design may be made.

HAZOP’s offer a systematic methodology to improve plant safety by assessing technical and organisational hazards, external factors and potential human error. In addition to identifying which safeguards are effective, HAZOP studies can also help identify best practice solutions for functional safety.

The results of a HAZOP can be utilised to reduce the probability of costly malfunctions while optimising operational safety.

AVS is an independent inspection body with years of experience and expertise in carrying out HAZOP studies and other assessment methodologies. We offer technical excellence and total quality assurance through systematic analysis of your plant based on the HAZOP procedure. The aim of the HAZOP is to improve safety and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Our expert validation engineers provide an objective, impartial and independent HAZOP study, ensuring that meetings are systematically performed and well structured.

AVS provides technical assessment services for the systematic analysis based on the HAZOP procedure as follows:

  • Identification of the scope and selection of the necessary supplementary documentation
  • Recommendation of technical experts and/or specialists required to undertake the HAZOP.
  • Chair and moderate HAZOP meetings to ensure productivity in line with the specified scope.
  • Delivery of HAZOP outputs reflecting modern data analytics and presentation techniques.
  • Documentation of the HAZOP study findings.
