The ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU covers equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The Directive defines the essential health and saftey requirements and conformity assessment procedures, to be applied before products are placed on the EU market. It is aligned with the New Legislative Framework policy, and has been applicable since the 20th April 2016, replacing the previous Directive 94/9/EC.
The SI No 230 2017 regulations transpose into national legislation the provisions of Directive 2014/34/EU which set out the requirements for the making available on the market and putting into service, as well as the essential health and safety requirements relating to the design and construction of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, (known as ATEX).
